Kokum Butter In Soap and Whipped Body Butter

Kokum Butter Has Excellent Benefits for Skin

This butter comes from the Kokum tree in India and it is packed with anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties which make it an ideal plant based ingredient in skincare. Due to the makeup of this butter, it doesn’t clog pores so if you are prone to breakouts this is a great alternative to heavier butters like Cocoa Butter. What I particularly like about Kokum is it’s ability to melt into the skin and the lips creating a rejuvenating feeling for noticeably smoother skin.

Excellent for Dry Skin

Many people will turn to butters to soothe dry skin and this ingredient definitely fits the criteria. It is extra emollient and will naturally moisturize the skin and help it to maintain the moisture levels. I even made a Whipped Body Butter and I can’t say enough about it’s fluffy consistency and staying power throughout the day. I’ve included the basic recipe below for you to give it a try.

Can you use it in Homemade Soap?

The folks over at The Chemistry Store had this to say about Kokum Butter

The kokum tree doesn’t require the use of any fertilizers, pesticides, insecticides or herbicides, which makes it an environmentally friendly resource. It thrives in areas with low rainfall and grows well in evergreen forests, helping to create environments in which animals can thrive. When using kokum butter in your soaps, you or your customers will benefit from its cooling effects on the skin. This makes kokum soaps great for use during the hot summer months of the year. Kokum soaps are also excellent for use on the feet. The kokum oil penetrates through the thick skin of the feet to add moisture and soften calluses. Soaps made with kokum butter is also ideal for treating chapped lips and dry or cracked hands.

One other consideration is substitutions for handmade soap. Many soap recipes will call for cocoa butter which can create a strong scent that is difficult to mask in the final bar. Kokum Butter can be used for sensitive skin as a substitute for Cocoa Butter in natural soap recipes. Just be sure to run the recipe through a soap calculator to ensure you have the proper amounts.

DIY Non-Greasy Whipped Body Butter

One of the best parts of Kokum Butter is it’s non-greasy and whips up beautifully. It will help to seal in the moisture without clogging your pores leaving a nice silky feel to the skin. If you would like to try it this Whipped Body Butter is a great addition and it’s super simple to make it at home.
